This is what we’ve all been waiting for. The World Surf League kicks off on the 10th of March, on the Gold Coast with the Quiksilver & Roxy Pro, being hosted at Australia’s favourite reeling right-hander, Snapper Rocks.
The area has produced more World Champions than any other place on the planet, and it’s easy to see why – the last few weeks there has been some incredible waves, and there’s some solid swell on the horizon.
It’s also a fitting place to announce Corona has come on board as Official Beer of the WSL. That means we’ll be bringing you plenty of good times throughout the year, and for years to come.
To kick things off, we’ve built the Corona Extra Shaping Bay at Snapper Rocks and have invited three of Australia’s top shapers, Neal Purchase Jr, Eden Saul from Dead Kooks and Joel Fitzgerald, to come hand shape boards onsite at the event. Not only will you get a chance to hang out with the lads and watch them burn through some foam, but you’ll also have the chance at winning one of eleven hand shaped boards.
Yes, you read correctly, during the Quiksilver Pro we will generously be giving away one hand shaped board each day. To be in the running to win on of eleven brand new boards, cruise on down to the Corona Shaping Bay onsite at Snapper Rocks and enter your details to win. Easy! The winner will be chosen at random and announced that day between 5PM – 6PM. Keep your phones on you, as the chosen winner then has only three hours to lay claim to their brand new stick. No response within the three hour time period, no board.
If the daily free surfboard giveaway and live shaping demos aren’t enticing enough, we’ll also be handing out a free Corona tote bag. Inside you’ll find a copy of the Corona Extra, our free print magazine which features an exclusive interview with Dane Reynolds, a Kassia Meador photo essay, Jeff Canham and more.
So make sure you swing past the Corona shaping bay at the Quiksilver Pro, enter our board giveaway, score the Corona Extra and say hi! There will be plenty else going on throughout the course of the Quiksilver Pro.

With out further ado, it’s time to meet our shapers.
Eden Saul has been hand shaping Dead Kooks surfboards for the past 10 years. What started out as a backyard hobby making boards for himself and friends, has evolved into a full-time job shaping for world champions and a surfing’s elite and has also led to surfing and shaping all over the globe. Growing up on the East Coast of Australia has provided Eden with a bountiful amount of right hand point-breaks to test, play and refine his shapes, which draw inspiration from the boards of old yet are anything but retro.
Joel Fitzgerald was born and raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. He grew up in the Hot Buttered shaping bay ran by his father, the legendary Terry Fitzgerald, and learned to surf at North Narrabeen along side his brothers. After traveling the world surfing on the professional tour with a career spanning over 20 years, Joel now enjoys shaping surfboards on his Byron Bay property and searching for new waves. Joel has a deep appreciation for the organic slowed down life and takes care in all he does, especially shaping. Joel is a soul surfer, known amongst his respected peers and fellow shapers as an innovator and talented surfboard craftsman.
